HRMA Panel on Human Resources Jobs

On April 27th, HRMA hosted an energetic panel discussion and networking session for people interested in breaking into an HR career.
The event, which was aptly entitled "How to Get a Job in Human Resources," kicked off with a lively conversation led by panelists Jill Davis, Robert Lowrey, Ashleigh Leenerts, and Bonike Akinsanya. After the panel, attendees broke into small-group discussions led by over a dozen HRMA-member volunteers. Attendees learned how to dress for success, how to make a LinkedIn page, how to network. how to ace their interviews, and everything they needed to know about employer-sponsored benefits. Dozens of attendees also brought their resumes, which were reviewed by a group of HRMA's professionals.

The event received positive remarks from attendees on LinkedIn, Twitter, and via email:
  • "Loved the panel at this event. A vast array of skills and backgrounds and each story painted a different picture which I believe helped every individual there."
  • "Fabulous program with a great turnout!! Many thanks to all who helped make this a big success!!"
  • "I attended the HR seminar on Thursday and it was life changing and enriching. Thank you very much for this opportunity."
  • "Excellent event, very encouraging to see so many future HR colleagues!"
The event was so popular it turned into a standing-room affair - with over 65 attendees, there were more attendees than chairs!

Thank you to everyone who attended and volunteered at the inaugural year of "How to Get a Job in Human Resources." And, special thanks to the University Relations Committee and Young Professionals Committee for putting it together, including committee chairs Andrea Maddox-Dallas, Andrew Metcalf, and Molly Marroquin.
