Message From the President

Happy March, HRMA Members!
March brings the promise of spring with its official arrival on the 20th of this month - which, I'm sure, we all welcome with open arms after some of the cold snaps this winter. It's also a busy time for planning the many upcoming HRMA events.

I hope that many of you had the opportunity to attend the Annual Legal Update last month. A special thank you to Susan Bassford Wilson, our panel of attorneys, and all our volunteers for putting on such a great event. The legal update gives you time to learn more about some of the many topics that keep you up at night.

The Young Professionals, in collaboration with University Relations, are working on the second "How to Get a Job in HR" program which will be held on April 25th at the Sheraton Clayton Plaza. Last year, this event was a great success, and the groups are hoping to build on that program by inviting university participation and building on some of the lessons learned last year. If you know anyone looking for a job in HR, students who may be interested, or even someone looking for a career change, be sure to let them know about this event.

We've bee promoting a special job fair to be held on April 10, 2018 at Chaifetz Arena - the "Partnership for Success." We need volunteers to review resumes for job fair attendees. If you have any interest in volunteering for an hour, please send an email to hrma@hrmastl.org. We need 16-20 people to cover four hours from 9:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m.

We are also working with the United Way and National Association of African-American Human Resources (NAAAHR) again this year to plan another HR Day of Service on May 4, 2018. For those who are new to HRMA, the event was an opportunity to unite our organizations and give back to the community by assisting people with job search information. This year we hope to reach more people in need of assistance, and John Marino, Past President, is working on making this a statewide event with all of the MO chapters. I suspect that our success will be a model for others to follow.

We have many exciting things to look forward to over the course of the next couple of months. If you have any other ideas for HRMA, do not hesitate to bring them to any of our Board Members.

I look forward to seeing you all soon! We're "Going the Distance!"
