Message From the President

For those of you attended the April meeting, you know that HRMA St. Louis has some great news to share!
As noted in the chapter history during our 75th anniversary year, HRMA St. Louis has evolved with name changes over the years to keep abreast of and reflect changes in the profession. While not directly related to the changing landscape of the profession, it was discussed and proposed by the Board that the chapter change its name to SHRM of Greater St. Louis! Many chapters use SHRM as part of their name to identify their affiliation with the national organization. Changing the name ensures that potential new members will find it easier to locate our chapter and give a clear indicator that we are connected with the Society for Human Resource Management.

The name change has absolutely no impact on our organization as far as what we offer, membership, dues and other chapter opportunities. Once approved, we will be working to rebrand the collateral for the chapter to reflect the new name. The name change will be proposed to the membership via email, and an official vote will be held at the next meeting.

Wow, what a great meeting in April on collaboration with NAAAHR of St. Louis. I was blown away by some of the information shared about the opioid epidemic, and it was certainly a great learning experience for many. Thanks to all who helped plan the meeting and made it the great success that it was.

Don't forget - the HR Day of Service is quickly approaching. With help from the United Way and NAAAHR again this year, HRMA St. Louis will join forces to give back to the community by assisting people with job search information. Led by Past President, John Marino, nine of the ten other State chapters in Missouri will be participating in their own respective communities with HRMA St. Louis paving the way to new traditions.

The last item that I would like to mention is the LEAD Award (for outstanding service by an individual to the profession) presented each year to a member from one of the 11 state chapters at the MOSHRM conference in August. Our chapter will provide a nomination, but anyone can submit a nomination for someone you feel is worthy. Please be on the lookout for the information forthcoming very soon. Your nomination should go directly to the MOSHRM State Council; instructions will be included.

So, a lot going on and many exciting things to look forward to over the course of the next couple of months. If you have any other ideas for HRMA, do not hestiate to bring them to any of our Board Members.

I look forward to seeing you all soon! We're "Going the Distance!"
