Message From the President
Greetings SHRM STL Members! Here we are - post conference by a few days and getting ready to head into the holidays soon! I sincerely appreciate, as I am sure all of our members do, the hard work that goes into executing a successful conference. Our registrations for the conference totaled 540 - the highest number in six years. We had 38 exhibitors - many of who support us year after year. And, of course, a special thank to our Gold Sponsors - Ogletree Deakins; Constangy, Brooks, Smith & Prophete; McMahon Berger, PC; and Willis Towers Watson. I heard some very positive feedback from the sponsors as well as participants. Finally, our Conference Co-Chairs, Katie Magoon and Andrew Metcalf, put in a lot of time to bring the day all together.
As you know from countless announcements, we raise money for the SHRM Foundation, and we have been a Top 25 Fundraiser for the past couple of years. At the conference, we were selling T-shirts and mugs, and we have a supply of each left. You will see the merchandise for sale at our next meeting, and I hope you will consider picking something up.
When the year began, I was slightly nervous about all of the work to be done by our chapter over the course of the year. As we often find, life speeds by in the blink of an eye, and it's time to refresh. At our next meeting, we will announce our Board Slate for 2019 and begin to make plans for the next year. I have had the pleasure of working with Tim Wells, President-Elect, for the past few years, and I am confident that he will lead our chapter to bigger and better accomplishments!
I know that we announce each meeting that we need volunteers to help serve the chapter, and I hope that each of you will give consideration to serving in some capacity. Whether it is just for the HR Day of Service or something more concrete like a Board or Committee position, new volunteers bring new ideas. You will also get to know some great people - Board and Committee work provide more time with fellow chapter members. Also, a little known fact for those who are certified - you can earn recertification credit by serving as a chapter volunteer.
If you have any thoughts, comments or ideas that you would like to share related to our Chapter, please don't hesitate to contact any of your Board Members. The Board wants SHRM of Greater St. Louis to be your organization, so feedback is appreciated.
I look forward to seeing you all soon! We're "Going the Distance!"
